Base Jumping is an extreme sport that is performed by people who are unofficial, but certified “adrenaline junkies”. People who are adrenaline junkies have an insatiable need for excitement and adventure. More to the point, they need for their activities to be dangerous and exciting. So with regards to base jumping, adrenaline junkies need to do this, because it’s more dangerous than skydiving. When a person performs skydiving, then they have minutes to get their parachute up so that they can land safely. Skydiving is performed from high altitudes from an airplane. Base jumping on the other hand is for more dangerous, because the jumper will jump from much lower altitudes. Because of this, the parachute will only have seconds, and not minutes to keep the jumper safe.
Adding to the danger level of the base jumping is the various structures that people choose to jump from. As a matter of fact, the word “base” in base jumping is an acronym. It stands for buildings, antennas, spans, and earth. These are the four structures that a base jumper will jump from. The buildings that they like to jump from are tall buildings. However, they really love tall buildings such as skyscrapers to jump that are under construction, because of the lack of security at these structures. Security poses a problem for the base jumpers. A security guard can stop a person from jumping, and that takes away the fun, and of course, the sport.
Base jumpers might also choose an antennas from which to jump from. These are very tall, and they have no security issues like with a building.
