Parents tend to judge their children quickly for not focusing on their school subjects because of the time they spare for leisure activities, such as sports. This stems from the fact that scholarships, grants and awards given to senior high school students that are based on academic performance and financial need are known to many people. What is known less is scholarships or grants given to seniors based on their success in sports. Although many people either are not informed about them, or they overlook these scholarship programs, there is a wide diversity of grants available to high school seniors if they have been successful in sports. Grants vary from field to field, but it is possible to find financial help for almost all kinds of sports activities a student has taken part in. One of the highly competitive scholarships that falls under this category is the American Legion Baseball Scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates should be part of a team affiliated with an American Legion Post and be able to provide references. There are other baseball scholarships for high school seniors as well. Some examples include the Dixie Boys Baseball Scholarship Program and the Dixie Youth Scholarship Program.
